We are a family run independently owned and managed company based in Chatteris that have been delivering heating oil to homes and businesses within approximately a 35 mile radius of our depot for over 55 years. With only one depot we feel that we are small enough to be able to look after our customers on a personal level and not just as a number.
We want to speak to you!! When you call SS Motors, you will speak to our Chatteris based sales team who will be able to take your order or help with any questions you may have.
SS Motors serve thousands of homes, farms and businesses direct with heating oil at competitive prices with a fleet of 11 modern delivery tankers. Our heating oil is independently sourced from major refineries and bridged back to our depot using one of our own bridging tankers.
Our depotOur current depot has been our home since 1970. It was purpose built and has storage for over 500,000 litres of oil. Our friendly team who are ready to take your call, are all based in our office on site, as well as the delivery drivers and boiler engineers. We also have a well stocked parts store which our oil-fired boiler engineers use to replenish up their van stock each day.

SS Motors (Fuels) Limited was formed in November 1966 by Arthur Munns and his brother Leonard Munns with the original depot at Blackhorse Lane in Chatteris. From day one SS Motors were distributors for Gulf Oil, and our tankers carried the famous Gulf blue and orange livery. |
ln March 1970, having outgrown the original Blackhorse Road yard, Gulf Oil built a brand-new, purpose-built depot, for SS Motors to lease, at Honeysome Road in Chatteris and this has remained our home to this day. The move to the larger premises at Honeysome Road being overseen by Arthur's eldest son, Michael Munns. |

ln December 1997 Gulf oil was sold to Shell UK, which ended our 30-year relationship with Gulf. After a period of restructuring, Shell decided that they did not want to retain ownership of the depot, so in July 2005 we acquired the depot, and entered into an agreement to purchase our fuel from Shell. At this time, we also made the decision not to carry the Shell pecten, choosing instead to create our own livery and logo, which retains the blue and orange from our early days.
However, this all changed on the 11th of December 2005, when the Hertfordshire Oil Storage terminal, also known as Buncefield, caught fire, and was destroyed. This was where we had been collecting our Shell fuel from, and due to the fire, Shell had to declare 'Force Majeure', leaving us to source our fuel from alternative suppliers without penalty.
SS Motors (Fuels) Limited was and remains, truly independent. We buy our fuel on the open market and are not tied to any oil company or supplier.
The company is still wholly owned and run by the Munns family and in 2023 is celebrating its 57th year.
